Why You Can't Just Weigh a Server Memory Stick

In a single DDR4 RDIMM (dual-sided 288-pin), precious metal distribution is highly uneven: gold fingers account for 70%+ of total gold content, DRAM chips ~30%, PCB copper ~10%. Step 1: Remove the Heat Spreader — Don't Toss It

Some ECC REG / LRDIMM modules carry an aluminum heat spreader on top. Remove it and weigh separately (scrap aluminum: ~15-20 CNY/kg). More importantly, the spreader obscures the upper gold fingers and chip silk-screen markings. Without removal, you cannot visually inspect for bad blocks or date codes. Use a plastic pry tool along the edges; never use a metal blade to avoid scratching the gold plating.
